    • Mayer to return to Talence on the road to Doha

European Athlete of the Year Kevin Mayer will return to the sight of his world decathlon record when he competes at the Decastar in Talence on 22-23 June on the road to the IAAF World Championships in Doha which begin in late September.

Mayer opted for a low-key indoor season after achieving a world record total of 9126 points in mid-September but the Frenchman still achieved some notable results. At the Meeting de l’Eure in Val de Reuil, he set a 60m hurdles lifetime best to 7.72 to come within 0.02 of the qualifying standard for the Glasgow 2019 European Athletics Indoor Championships.

He also showed good flat speed at the same meeting, clocking 6.91 in the 60m to come within 0.06 of his lifetime best which he achieved at the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Birmingham last March.

Mayer is currently training in his hometown of Montpellier but he will travel to Kobe in Japan for two weeks on 26 April in order to get acquainted with the surroundings ahead of the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo which will be his third Games.

Mayer will also compete in the Monaco Diamond League on 12 July and in the Paris Diamond League on 24 August.
